Medical Coding Specialist

Overview

Medical Coding Specialists in Nellore District play a vital role in converting medical diagnoses, procedures, and services into standardized codes for billing and insurance purposes. They ensure accurate claim submissions, minimize billing errors, and support smooth revenue cycle operations for hospitals, clinics, and healthcare companies.

This role requires excellent attention to detail, knowledge of medical terminology, and proficiency in coding systems.


Key Responsibilities

Medical Record Review

  • Review patient medical records, doctor notes, lab results, and discharge summaries.
  • Ensure all required documentation is complete before coding.

Coding & Classification

  • Assign accurate codes using:
    • ICD-10 (Diagnosis Coding)
    • CPT (Procedure Coding)
    • HCPCS (Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System)
  • Ensure coding meets regulatory guidelines and insurance requirements.

Billing & Claim Support

  • Work closely with billing teams to prepare clean claims.
  • Identify coding errors that may cause claim denials.
  • Assist with claim resubmissions and corrections when necessary.

Compliance & Quality

  • Ensure coding complies with national and international coding standards.
  • Follow HIPAA guidelines and maintain confidentiality of patient data.
  • Participate in internal audits to maintain high-quality coding accuracy.

Collaboration & Reporting

  • Coordinate with doctors, nurses, and medical staff to clarify unclear documentation.
  • Prepare coding reports, productivity summaries, and performance metrics.
  • Update coding knowledge regularly as guidelines change.

Qualifications Required

Education

  • Any Degree (B.Sc, B.Pharm, B.Com, BA, etc.)
  • Preferred: Life Science graduates

Certifications (Highly Preferred)

  • CPC (Certified Professional Coder)
  • CCS / CCA (AHIMA Certifications)
  • Certificate courses in Medical Coding from recognized institutes

Freshers with training certification are also eligible.


Experience

  • 0–3 years of experience in medical coding.
  • Experience in HCC, ED, E/M, Radiology, or Surgery coding is an advantage.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Proficiency in ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
  • Good analytical and interpretation skills.
  • Attention to detail and high accuracy.
  • Ability to work with healthcare software and EMR systems.
  • Communication skills in English; Telugu is helpful for local coordination.
